2008-04-09 03:48 < p858snake> denelson83: it would be cool, if you could tell what the answer was for because sometimes its confusing when theres multipul questions to see what it was for eg: [ 5] <Answer> (Question: Is it FA or A class?)
2008-04-09 03:48 < Enterprise_Cat> I thought you said it was an article :P

2008-04-09 03:50 < denelson83> Obviously you have a snowball's chance in hell of guessing it, so...
2008-04-09 03:50 < denelson83> It was oven!
2008-04-09 03:50 < denelson83> Oven is a START-class article

2008-04-09 03:53 < Sonja> did who say yes?
2008-04-09 03:53 < Enterprise_Cat> Sonja: In the FURG
2008-04-09 03:54 < Sonja> i just wonder if the "low-resulution" and number of pixels there are kinda contradictive
2008-04-09 03:54 < Sonja> what's furg?
2008-04-09 03:54 < denelson83> Sonja: Deleted. CSD I7.
2008-04-09 03:54 < Sonja> what does csd i7 mean?

2008-04-09 03:56 < denelson83> And that word has only one vowel
2008-04-09 03:56 < denelson83> Fuh is one syllable!
2008-04-09 03:56 < Enterprise_Cat> right
2008-04-09 03:56 < denelson83> And Tena is HPZ
2008-04-09 03:56 < Enterprise_Cat> shush :P

2008-04-09 03:58 * Enterprise_Cat needs to read the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy again
2008-04-09 03:58 < denelson83> Common Bushtit?
2008-04-09 03:59 < Enterprise_Cat> Wiangchan: Please either join the channel and stay or leave and stay off please, please stop joinflooding
2008-04-09 04:01 < The359> he's join flooding?
2008-04-09 04:02 < denelson83> If (s)he does it again, I'll use the trigger
2008-04-09 04:02 < Mike_H> He did it a grand total of twice.
2008-04-09 04:02 * The359 only sees it happening twice
2008-04-09 04:02 < The359> simmer down
2008-04-09 04:02 < Mike_H> I agree.
2008-04-09 04:02 < denelson83> I count at least five times (s)he did it
2008-04-09 04:03 < Mark_Ryan> denelson83, over what period of time?
2008-04-09 04:03 < The359> I had to scroll up quite a bit to see where they did it again
2008-04-09 04:03 < The359> so it's hardly a "flood"
2008-04-09 04:03 < Mike_H> Yeah, me too
2008-04-09 04:03 < Mike_H> that's not flooding
2008-04-09 04:03 < Mike_H> It's a shitty connection
2008-04-09 04:04 < denelson83> Past three hours
2008-04-09 04:04 < Mike_H> oh my God, twice in the last five or ten minutes, and then once an hour
2008-04-09 04:04 < Mark_Ryan> if it was in a minute, yes, that's joinflooding. otherwise, tone it down. when my wireless connection is shot, i reconnect often, unintentionally.
2008-04-09 04:05 < Enterprise_Cat> Mark_Ryan: No, what triggers me is that the leave then join 5 seconds later
2008-04-09 04:05 < Enterprise_Cat> *They
2008-04-09 04:05 < Enterprise_Cat> If it is a connection fault, it would take longer than that
2008-04-09 04:05 < Krimpet> Mike_H, omg, I'm sinking under the incredible onslaught :o
2008-04-09 04:05 < Mike_H> Krimpet: I KNOW
2008-04-09 04:05 * Mike_H clings to a lifeboat
2008-04-09 04:06 < Krimpet> Enterprise_Cat: there's another kind of fault, it's called accidentally closing your IRC client :)
2008-04-09 04:06 < Enterprise_Cat> Krimpet: Even then, you have to reconnect, which takes a little longer then 5 seconds from my experience
2008-04-09 04:06 < Mike_H> This all sounds like a "it's late at night and there's nothing else to whine about" problem
2008-04-09 04:06 < Mark_Ryan> Enterprise_Cat, they could be testing their client. either way, the disruption caused by their quitting and rejoining is much less than the disruption caused by ops being heavy-handed and issuing threats for non-punishable behaviour
2008-04-09 04:06 * Krimpet has done it quite a few times, especially hitting alt-F4 in the wrong window
2008-04-09 04:06 < Enterprise_Cat> Mark_Ryan: You're right, I need moar sleep
2008-04-09 04:06 < Krimpet> Enterprise_Cat: it takes like 2 seconds for me
2008-04-09 04:07 < Enterprise_Cat> Krimpet: That is why I have the Windows key and Alt+F4 disabled :P
2008-04-09 04:07 < Enterprise_Cat> At least, that's the theory
2008-04-09 04:07 < Mark_Ryan> you know what I hate? computer games that don't disable the windows key from working. and even worse, the ones that do, that then freeze on you leaving you no way to get back to your desktop apart from resetting your computer
2008-04-09 04:08 < Mike_H> Enterprise_Cat: No more Murder, She Wrote episodes before bed!
2008-04-09 04:08 < Enterprise_Cat> Mike_H: heh
2008-04-09 04:08 < Enterprise_Cat> Mark_Ryan: I have a few that do that, so I got fed up and got a program to disable the Windows key
2008-04-09 04:09 < Enterprise_Cat> I also disabled Alt+F4 for certain programs, such as ChatZilla, using it
2008-04-09 04:09 < Enterprise_Cat> But not for Firefox so I can still close what little popups I get through the combination
2008-04-09 04:09 < denelson83> How do you accidentally hit Alt+F4? Those two keys are so far apart
2008-04-09 04:10 < Mike_H> denelson83: Miracles happen.
2008-04-09 04:10 < Enterprise_Cat> denelson83: Happens mainly on laptops, because Fn and Alt are almost next to each other
2008-04-09 04:10 < denelson83> Oh
2008-04-09 04:10 < denelson83> How Fn-icky
2008-04-09 04:10 < Enterprise_Cat> The last time I did it was when I meant to press Alt+F2 to trigger the multiple-rename program I have
2008-04-09 04:11 < Krimpet> I'll sometimes mean to close a bunch of windows by hitting alt-F4 a bunch of times, but accidentally kill a wrong one
2008-04-09 04:11 < Enterprise_Cat> Krimpet: There's an easy way, it's <Ctrl>+<Alt>+<Delete>
2008-04-09 04:11 < Luna-San> I managed to sign off IRC without a screen, the other day...
2008-04-09 04:11 < Krimpet> especially if I'm closing a ton of firefoxes
2008-04-09 04:11 < Enterprise_Cat> Or <Right Ctrl>+<Scroll Lock>+<Scroll Lock> on some computers
2008-04-09 04:12 < Krimpet> Enterprise_Cat: I'm not on Windows. :) but either way, it's fine for me, I just curse loudly and open my client back up.
2008-04-09 04:14 < Enterprise_Cat> Holding <Right Ctrl> and pressing <Scroll Lock> twice has been known to crash certain computers with a Windows 0xE2 BSoD
2008-04-09 04:14 < Krimpet> Enterprise_Cat: that's a feature. it's for debugging
2008-04-09 04:15 < Krimpet> it's togglable by a registry entry somewhere
2008-04-09 04:15 < Enterprise_Cat> It says something like: "STOP 0xE2 MANUALLY_INITIATED_CRASH (0x00000,0x000000,0xE2)
2008-04-09 04:15 < Enterprise_Cat> Krimpet: I know
2008-04-09 04:15 < Enterprise_Cat> Fun stuff
2008-04-09 04:15 < Krimpet> it's so developers can get a memory dump, and fire up their debugger
2008-04-09 04:16 < Enterprise_Cat> I did it a few times just for the lulz on my school computers
2008-04-09 04:16 < denelson83> On XP?
2008-04-09 04:16 < denelson83> You know, I think it's called Windows XP just for the emoticon the letters X and P make
2008-04-09 04:17 < The359> heh, lovely quote
2008-04-09 04:17 * Enterprise_Cat is now going to bed, good night!
2008-04-09 04:17 < The359> While rushing to the car, I noticed small splotches of a peculiar gray substance marking a trail on the asphalt leading up to the driver. When I reached the car, I was shocked to see that Smiley's helmet was gone, along with the top of his skull. He had essentially been scalped by the debris fence. The material on the race track was most of his brain.
2008-04-09 04:17 < The359> His helmet, due to massive centrifugal force, was literally pulled from his head on impact...I rode to the care center with the body. On the way in I performed a cursory examination and realized that nearly every bone in his body was shattered. He had a gaping wound in his side that looked as if he had been attacked by a large shark. I had never seen such trauma."
2008-04-09 04:17 < denelson83> Disgusting!!!
2008-04-09 04:17 < The359> Gordon Smiley, deadly accident trying to qualify for the Indianapolis 500 in 1982
2008-04-09 04:18 < Krimpet> eww\
2008-04-09 04:18 < denelson83> Oh, centrifugal force is fictitious
2008-04-09 04:18 * The359 knos there is video of the accident on YouTube
2008-04-09 04:18 < Mark_Ryan> wouldn't it have been centripetal force? i thought centrifugal force was an imaginary concept
2008-04-09 04:18 < The359> 200+mph impact with a concrete wall
2008-04-09 04:19 < denelson83> 320 km/h+?
2008-04-09 04:19 < The359> probably, it's a quote from a medical perspective, Mark_Ryan
2008-04-09 04:19 < The359> so I'm sure he isn't 100% on the physics of what happened to Smiley
2008-04-09 04:19 < Krimpet> centrifugal force is still used to explain many things, I thought
2008-04-09 04:19 < denelson83> Oh, this: http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=lBUFJ2O9nM8
2008-04-09 04:19 < Krimpet> even though it's a "phantom" force
2008-04-09 04:19 < Mike_H> Mark_Ryan: Did you see this?
2008-04-09 04:19 < Mike_H> http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v124/haltermannews/lucy.jpg
2008-04-09 04:20 < The359> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GDSR6lHCcDg This is the incident
2008-04-09 04:20 < Mike_H> What incident?
2008-04-09 04:20 < The359> the one I quoted above
2008-04-09 04:20 < The359> Gordon Smiley trying to break the overall qualifying record for the Indianapolis 500 in 1982
2008-04-09 04:21 < denelson83> And he paid for it with his life
2008-04-09 04:21 < The359> Car understeered, he tried to correct, the car suddenly gripped, and went straight out to the wall at 200+mph
2008-04-09 04:21 < denelson83> That would be the deadly sin of Pride
2008-04-09 04:21 < The359> dead instantly
2008-04-09 04:21 < Mark_Ryan> i reckon people who compete in those sports are idiots
2008-04-09 04:21 < The359> they're safer than they used to be
2008-04-09 04:21 < Mark_Ryan> i put them in the same category as people who die of drug overdoses
2008-04-09 04:22 < Krimpet> the choice of Lou Reed song for that video is kinda chilling
2008-04-09 04:23 < The359> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QyU8jHmkXTE this one has actual sound of the crash
2008-04-09 04:23 < The359> rather than music
2008-04-09 04:24 < The359> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lBUFJ2O9nM8 Or if you want commentary from the great Jackie Stewart...

2008-04-09 05:59 < Messedrocker> adambishop is from the east coast of canada
2008-04-09 06:00 < denelson83> Toronto is NOT on the east coast!
2008-04-09 06:00 < AdamBishop> I am not from the east coast...
2008-04-09 06:00 < AdamBishop> that's a very long way away
2008-04-09 06:00 < Messedrocker> eastern sector
2008-04-09 06:00 < Messedrocker> i.e.
2008-04-09 06:01 < Messedrocker> you're not in vancouver
2008-04-09 06:01 < denelson83> EDT
2008-04-09 06:01 < Mike_H> the East Coast is like another timezone over anyway, isn't it?
2008-04-09 06:01 < denelson83> And neither am I
2008-04-09 06:01 < denelson83> Right, Mike_H is in Tampa Bay
2008-04-09 06:01 < Mike_H> Tampa Bay's a big place, honey
2008-04-09 06:01 < Mike_H> that's a six county radius
2008-04-09 06:01 < denelson83> That's the east coast of the US, but not Canada
2008-04-09 06:01 < Messedrocker> Mike_H, the East Coast of the United States and Canada is mostly in UTC-5 during regular times
2008-04-09 06:01 < Mike_H> Hernando, Pasco, Hillsborough, Pinellas, Polk and Manatee
2008-04-09 06:02 < Messedrocker> PARTS though are in UTC-4 (standard time)
2008-04-09 06:02 < cimon> AdamBishop, just out of curiosty, did the missisauga stripper resemble your sister?
2008-04-09 06:02 < Messedrocker> like N&L
2008-04-09 06:02 < Messedrocker> and the Virgin Islands
2008-04-09 06:02 < Mike_H> Messedrocker: You're forgetting that there are provinces of Canada that are "the east coast" that are in another time zone.
2008-04-09 06:02 < denelson83> Odd, in the Summer, Nova Scotia is in UTC-3
2008-04-09 06:02 < Messedrocker> mike_h, i just brought up that place
2008-04-09 06:02 < denelson83> and the nautical letter for UTC-3 is Q
2008-04-09 06:02 < Messedrocker> mike_h, what are you doing up this early
2008-04-09 06:02 < Mike_H> Messedrocker: It's an entire province
2008-04-09 06:02 < denelson83> so in the summer, Nova Scotia is on Quebec time ;)
2008-04-09 06:02 < Mike_H> it's not like a little town
2008-04-09 06:02 < Mike_H> I think there are actually two provinces in that time zone
2008-04-09 06:02 < Mike_H> maybe three
2008-04-09 06:02 < denelson83> Three and a half
2008-04-09 06:03 < Mike_H> There's Nova Scotia
2008-04-09 06:03 < Mike_H> PEI
2008-04-09 06:03 < Mike_H> Newfoundland and Labrador
2008-04-09 06:03 < denelson83> New Brunswick

2008-04-09 06:07 < denelson83> Trivia: In what U.S. state is there a DST "bullseye"?
2008-04-09 06:08 < Mike_H> What the hell does bullseye mean in that context
2008-04-09 06:09 < denelson83> As in an area that observes DST with an enclave that doesn't, next to an area that doesn't
2008-04-09 06:09 < Messedrocker> arizona/
2008-04-09 06:09 < Messedrocker> hawaii?
2008-04-09 06:09 < Messedrocker> i know those states don't believe in DST
2008-04-09 06:09 < denelson83> Your first guess was correct
2008-04-09 06:09 < denelson83> Arizona doesn't observe DST
2008-04-09 06:09 < denelson83> But the Navajo reservation does
2008-04-09 06:09 < Messedrocker> why
2008-04-09 06:09 < denelson83> But the Hopi reservation in the Navajo reservation doesn't
2008-04-09 06:10 < denelson83> That's a "bullseye"
2008-04-09 06:10 < Messedrocker> are native americans citizens of the united states
2008-04-09 06:10 < Messedrocker> or are they citizens of their respective nation

2008-04-09 06:16 < denelson83> Messedrocker: Madonna, not Rick Astley
2008-04-09 06:16 < Messedrocker> never gonna find you some clothes
2008-04-09 06:16 < Messedrocker> and assert them
2008-04-09 06:16 < denelson83> bah
2008-04-09 06:17 < Mike_H> Messedrocker: Gonna dress you up in my love

2008-04-09 06:18 < cimon> Kylie Minogues "lets do the locomotion"

2008-04-09 06:18 < Mike_H> cimon: I found a video for Dress You Up
2008-04-09 06:18 < Mike_H> made for the Reinvention Tour
2008-04-09 06:18 < cimon> was even worse
2008-04-09 06:18 < Mike_H> because Dress You Up never had a video
2008-04-09 06:18 < Mike_H> it was made of clips from Like a Virgin, Material Girl, and La Isla Bonita
2008-04-09 06:18 < Mike_H> a pretty funky video.
2008-04-09 06:20 < cimon> Mike_H: are you saying Kylie Minogues videos are not worse than Rick Astleys?
2008-04-09 06:20 < Mike_H> cimon: No, I'm saying Madonna's are fabulous
2008-04-09 06:20 < denelson83> Some people think Kylie Minogue's voice is actually Rick Astley's voice sped up

2008-04-09 06:25 < dav7> hey.... what are the different options for the action= parameter in the URL?
2008-04-09 06:25 < dav7> I know about action=raw, but I thought there was some mode that just returned everything in the page
2008-04-09 06:26 < cimon> Nobody here is disputing htat Rick Astley was bad,
2008-04-09 06:27 < Mike_H> I don't think he was bad per se
2008-04-09 06:27 < Mike_H> he was just really jarring
2008-04-09 06:27 < Mike_H> he was a runty redhead
2008-04-09 06:27 < Mike_H> and had the voice of an old black guy
2008-04-09 06:27 < Mike_H> that's just weird

2008-04-09 06:37 < dav7> heh
2008-04-09 06:37 < dav7> hey... can I just run down: the syntax markup basically consists of link, stuff, <stuff> and so on, right?
2008-04-09 06:37 < dav7> ooh, and {|
2008-04-09 06:38 < denelson83> I'll tax your SIN
2008-04-09 06:38 < denelson83> I mean SYN
2008-04-09 06:38 < dav7> rofl
2008-04-09 06:38 < denelson83> And then you'll tax my ACK
2008-04-09 06:39 < dav7> TCP/IP is interesting, almost to a parabolic point
2008-04-09 06:39 < dav7> when we SIN (SYN) we ACK as a response because it usually means something bad happened as a result :P
2008-04-09 06:39 < dav7> haha that's so true...
2008-04-09 06:41 < denelson83> How is it bad when you get a SYN/ACK back when you SYN yourself?
2008-04-09 06:42 < cimon> be nice though...
2008-04-09 06:42 < dav7> lol
2008-04-09 06:42 < dav7> denelson83: you know, SYN = SIN = wrong
2008-04-09 06:42 < dav7> heh
2008-04-09 06:42 < denelson83> LOL... I mean SYN another computer
2008-04-09 06:42 < dav7> oh haha
2008-04-09 06:43 < denelson83> ooooooooooooohhh, ri-i-i-ight

2008-04-09 06:58 < cimon> yes, but I have a sad recollection of pee...
2008-04-09 07:03 < NotACow> hey, it washes out
2008-04-09 07:04 < cimon> quite rite
2008-04-09 07:06 < Lucifer_Cat> cimple cimon
2008-04-09 07:08 < AdamBishop> they puke on you too

2008-04-09 07:11 < cimon> Lucifer_Cat, somebody told me that once somebody couln't communicate other thane in hebrew letters, it was a good sign, they were well on their way from being, not in so many words, simply not that siimple...

2008-04-09 07:28 < Messedrocker> say
2008-04-09 07:28 < Messedrocker> how many left-handed presidents have there been
2008-04-09 07:28 < AdamBishop> four
2008-04-09 07:29 < AdamBishop> ha, that was actually kind of close
2008-04-09 07:29 < AdamBishop> apparently there were 6
2008-04-09 07:29 < AdamBishop> http://www.infoplease.com/askeds/left-handed-presidents.html
2008-04-09 07:29 < Cyrius> seven.
2008-04-09 07:30 < AdamBishop> yeah. Hooray for math
2008-04-09 07:30 < Warpath> and its important because? ;)
2008-04-09 07:30 < zocky> ah, *american* presidents
2008-04-09 07:30 < Cyrius> Warpath: foreign relations.
2008-04-09 07:31 < Messedrocker> zocky, as opposed to what?
2008-04-09 07:31 < Messedrocker> french presidents?
2008-04-09 07:31 < zocky> Messedrocker, or of any of the other 180+ countries that have presidents
2008-04-09 07:31 < Messedrocker> 180 countries have presidents? yowza
2008-04-09 07:31 < Messedrocker> how many countries are there?
2008-04-09 07:31 < zocky> ~200
2008-04-09 07:32 < zocky> oh, I forgot to count all the commonwealth countries among monarchies
2008-04-09 07:32 < Warpath> Mugabe will cheat and win \o/
2008-04-09 07:32 < zocky> so the number of presidents is probably lower than 180
2008-04-09 07:32 < Warpath> NZ/Aust haz no presidents :)
2008-04-09 07:32 < zocky> but surely not lower than 150
2008-04-09 07:33 < Messedrocker> that's what i was thinking about
2008-04-09 07:33 < Messedrocker> a lot of countries have prime ministers because they're commonwealth folk
2008-04-09 07:33 < Messedrocker> incidentally those are largely the countries i care about
2008-04-09 07:33 < Messedrocker> germany also ha a president i think
2008-04-09 07:33 < zocky> Messedrocker, almost all countries have prime ministers
2008-04-09 07:33 < zocky> and the majority of them also have presidents
2008-04-09 07:33 < Messedrocker> yep
2008-04-09 07:34 < zocky> president-without-prime-minister is a very american setup. I don't think many other countries are following that.
2008-04-09 07:36 < Messedrocker> well obviously i am going to be ignorant about how world governments in general are set up because i don't really pay attention to it
2008-04-09 07:36 < Messedrocker> though i am familiar with the idea of president-with-prime-minister
2008-04-09 07:36 < Messedrocker> i just can't recall which countries have it
2008-04-09 07:37 < AdamBishop> "there are only two left-handed Prime Ministers
2008-04-09 07:37 < AdamBishop> on record: Churchill and Callaghan
2008-04-09 07:37 < AdamBishop> "
2008-04-09 07:37 < AdamBishop> and none for Canada
2008-04-09 07:37 < zocky> Messedrocker, proably every country in europe that's not a monarchy
2008-04-09 07:37 < zocky> most of asia and africa too
2008-04-09 07:37 < zocky> russia
2008-04-09 07:38 < Messedrocker> israel
2008-04-09 07:38 < Messedrocker> (which counts as "asia")
2008-04-09 07:38 < Messedrocker> though the israeli president isn't that prolific apparently
2008-04-09 07:38 < White_Cat> France is a monarchy
2008-04-09 07:38 < Messedrocker> you hear more about the PM
2008-04-09 07:38 < AdamBishop> and apparently Julius Caesar was left handed
2008-04-09 07:38 < White_Cat> Sarkozy is a monarch
2008-04-09 07:38 < Chetblong> oui oui
2008-04-09 07:38 < Messedrocker> when you have the president and the prime minister, what is the difference
2008-04-09 07:38 < White_Cat> Messedrocker easy
2008-04-09 07:39 < White_Cat> one has more power than the other
2008-04-09 07:39 < zocky> White_Cat, saying things like that might get one delivered to Mme. Guillotine in an ox-drawn cart
2008-04-09 07:39 < Messedrocker> yes white cat
2008-04-09 07:39 < Messedrocker> but how
2008-04-09 07:39 < White_Cat> well
2008-04-09 07:39 < White_Cat> for example presidents ratify constitutional changes
2008-04-09 07:39 < zocky> Messedrocker, in most countries, the president just has "representative" powers, like a monarch in a modern monarchy
2008-04-09 07:39 < White_Cat> prime ministers cannot
2008-04-09 07:39 * Chetblong drags White_Cat to the guillotine in an ox-drawn cart
2008-04-09 07:40 < White_Cat> presidents get larger planes
2008-04-09 07:40 < White_Cat> prime ministers travel in ox carts
2008-04-09 07:40 < Chetblong> lol
2008-04-09 07:40 < Messedrocker> so zocky, he (a) appeals to the people on behalf of the government and (b) appeals to other countries on behalf of the government
2008-04-09 07:41 < zocky> Messedrocker, not necessarily on behalf of the government
2008-04-09 07:41 < zocky> Messedrocker, presidents often have minor powers like confirming various state officials, like judges, ambassadors, etc.
2008-04-09 07:41 < zocky> and sometimes they act against the government
2008-04-09 07:41 < zocky> depends on the electoral system, really
2008-04-09 07:42 < Messedrocker> i still think those duties are most efficiently performed by the one president
2008-04-09 07:42 < zocky> in places where both the government and president are appointed by the parliament, they tend to be from the same side of politics
2008-04-09 07:42 < Messedrocker> the vice president on the other hand is a lot like a vestigial tail
2008-04-09 07:44 < zocky> in places where the president is elected directly, and the government is appointed by the parliament, you get occasional "cohabitations"
2008-04-09 07:45 < zocky> which can cause more or less problems, depending on the system
2008-04-09 07:45 < Messedrocker> in the united states it just causes ineffectiveness
2008-04-09 07:46 < Messedrocker> the congress is too much of a pussy to stand up against the president
2008-04-09 07:46 < Messedrocker> it makes too many compromises
2008-04-09 07:47 < zocky> your system sounds lovely in theory
2008-04-09 07:47 < zocky> the separation and balancing of powers, etc.
2008-04-09 07:47 < Messedrocker> it was written based on political theory
2008-04-09 07:47 < Messedrocker> james madison came to the constitutional convention having read up on republican government
2008-04-09 07:47 < White_Cat> Messedrocker in countries with prime ministers
2008-04-09 07:48 < zocky> the problem is that the executive tends to be inherently stronger than other branches of government
2008-04-09 07:48 < White_Cat> president sits in his office
2008-04-09 07:48 < White_Cat> prime minister does all the work
2008-04-09 07:48 < Messedrocker> zocky, depends on the political views of the guy in charge
2008-04-09 07:48 < White_Cat> for the most part president occupies a seat only to deal with disputes
2008-04-09 07:48 < White_Cat> as a 3rd party
2008-04-09 07:48 < Messedrocker> so the president is the national arbitrator
2008-04-09 07:48 < zocky> Messedrocker, I mean the realistic political power, what they can get done despite opposition from other branches
2008-04-09 07:48 < White_Cat> thats the ideal contition of course
2008-04-09 07:48 < Messedrocker> the rest of the time he masturbates
2008-04-09 07:48 < White_Cat> Messedrocker right
2008-04-09 07:48 < zocky> Messedrocker, the one who acts, i.e. the executive, always has the upper hand
2008-04-09 07:49 < Messedrocker> yes, that has been proven time and time again
2008-04-09 07:49 < White_Cat> Messedrocker well I dont know about the masturbation part
2008-04-09 07:49 < Messedrocker> with george washington, with andrew jackson, with abraham lincoln
2008-04-09 07:49 < Messedrocker> and there are others
2008-04-09 07:49 < White_Cat> Bill Clinton for example did not masturbate
2008-04-09 07:49 < White_Cat> he used interns
2008-04-09 07:49 < Messedrocker> our current president is a good example of someone who increased the power of the executive branch
2008-04-09 07:49 < White_Cat> Messedrocker so much that they will dispose him soon for it
2008-04-09 07:50 < White_Cat> I think it was bin laden that increased the executive power of the US pre
2008-04-09 07:50 < White_Cat> z
2008-04-09 07:50 < Messedrocker> no he'll be disposed soon because his term is expiring in january
2008-04-09 07:50 < White_Cat> Messedrocker thats the excuse yes
2008-04-09 07:50 < Messedrocker> it's an excuse that could have been predicted as far back as 1789 :)
2008-04-09 07:50 < White_Cat> I wonder what earth will do once is term is done
2008-04-09 07:50 < Messedrocker> White_Cat, concurrently cry tears of joy?
2008-04-09 07:50 < White_Cat> no
2008-04-09 07:50 < White_Cat> tears of pain
2008-04-09 07:50 < Messedrocker> i know half the country will
2008-04-09 07:51 < zocky> letting dubya get away without any consequences will screw US for decades
2008-04-09 07:51 < White_Cat> who will we blame everything then?
2008-04-09 07:51 < Messedrocker> zocky, maybe congress will pass a resolution in the future condemning the tenure of george walter bush
2008-04-09 07:51 < Messedrocker> and his father barbara!
2008-04-09 07:51 < White_Cat> Walker
2008-04-09 07:51 * Messedrocker can't get enough of that borat soundbite
2008-04-09 07:51 < White_Cat> not Walter
2008-04-09 07:51 < Messedrocker> White_Cat, per history, the Jews
2008-04-09 07:51 < zocky> Johny Walker?
2008-04-09 07:51 < White_Cat> Jews?
2008-04-09 07:51 < White_Cat> just throw a penny among them and whatch them fight to the death!
2008-04-09 07:52 < White_Cat> same strategy works for catholic priests but you need to toss in a small boy
2008-04-09 07:52 < Messedrocker> zocky, White Cat was correcting me for saying Bush's middle name is Walter, not Walker. I was referencing a phrase from Borat: "I like American Premier George Walter Bush, and his father Barbara!"
2008-04-09 07:52 < zocky> yeah, yeah, I know
2008-04-09 07:52 < White_Cat> Messedrocker I dislike that british "comedian"
2008-04-09 07:52 < zocky> I was just wondering if he was named after johnny walker
2008-04-09 07:53 < Messedrocker> zocky he's named after his daddy
2008-04-09 07:53 < White_Cat> zocky no probably the texas ranger
2008-04-09 07:53 < Messedrocker> and his daddy was named after his grandpa i think
2008-04-09 07:53 < White_Cat> Messedrocker I thought they were cloned...
2008-04-09 07:53 < AdamBishop> I support America's war of terrorism!
2008-04-09 07:53 < Messedrocker> AdamBishop, do you mean "of" or "on"?
2008-04-09 07:53 < Messedrocker> oh wait, that's a borat quote isn't it
2008-04-09 07:54 < AdamBishop> yes.
2008-04-09 07:54 < AdamBishop> when he's at the rodeo
2008-04-09 07:54 < Messedrocker> i should get that movie
2008-04-09 07:54 < Messedrocker> and the history of the world part 1
2008-04-09 07:54 * Messedrocker needz moar itunes credits
2008-04-09 07:54 < Messedrocker> hi cornell student
2008-04-09 07:54 < White_Cat> he isnt a student
2008-04-09 07:54 < White_Cat> he is the dean :P
2008-04-09 07:55 < Messedrocker> hello dean of admissions of cornell university
2008-04-09 07:55 < Messedrocker> would you like to see my transcript while i eloquently describe my history as an advocate for free information?
2008-04-09 07:55 < Messedrocker> uuugh
2008-04-09 07:56 * Messedrocker feels sick
2008-04-09 07:56 < AdamBishop> Cornell has scary hills
2008-04-09 07:56 < AdamBishop> well, Ithaca I mean
2008-04-09 07:56 < White_Cat> AdamBishop most women has scary hills
2008-04-09 07:56 < White_Cat> men tend to complain less about that tho
2008-04-09 07:57 < AdamBishop> those aren't scary!
2008-04-09 07:57 < zocky> at least ithaca is disambiguated correctly, unlike syracuse
2008-04-09 07:58 < AdamBishop> Syracuse used to be the city in Sicily but someone from New York insisted on making a disambig page
2008-04-09 07:59 < AdamBishop> that was like 5 years ago...
2008-04-09 07:59 < AdamBishop> you can't see that far back because he fucked it up with a manual move and I had to fix it
2008-04-09 08:02 < zocky> yeah, i remember the kerfuffle
2008-04-09 08:02 < zocky> georgia is another example, and we had numerous move requests and whatnot over it
2008-04-09 08:03 < AdamBishop> we should call Georgia by its native name
2008-04-09 08:03 < Messedrocker> Zrgrbnd?
2008-04-09 08:03 < AdamBishop> Sakartvelo
2008-04-09 08:03 < Messedrocker> that's a really cool name
2008-04-09 08:03 < zocky> AdamBishop, yes, and we should move Japan to Nihon
2008-04-09 08:04 < Messedrocker> if "Nihon" is Japan
2008-04-09 08:04 < Cyrius> don't forget Suomi
2008-04-09 08:04 < Messedrocker> what does that make "Nippon"
2008-04-09 08:04 < Cyrius> also Japan
2008-04-09 08:04 < zocky> Messedrocker, another spelling of the same thing
2008-04-09 08:04 < AdamBishop> well, Georgian just has amusing consonant clusters, so it would be fun to pronounce the native name
2008-04-09 08:04 < Cyrius> it has two names
2008-04-09 08:04 < AdamBishop> Japan is not ambiguous
2008-04-09 08:05 < Messedrocker> are their P's and N's interchangable?
2008-04-09 08:05 < zocky> AdamBishop, neither is georgia for most of the world
2008-04-09 08:05 < Messedrocker> like R and L are?
2008-04-09 08:05 < Cyrius> "The Japanese name Nippon is used for most official purposes, including on Japanese money, postage stamps, and for many international sporting events. Nihon is a more casual term and the most frequently used in contemporary speech."
2008-04-09 08:05 < White_Cat> Messedrocker R and L sound similar in japanese
2008-04-09 08:05 < Messedrocker> yes
2008-04-09 08:06 < zocky> they don't "sound similar", really. they're both allophones of the same phoneme, so japanese people can't tell them apart.
2008-04-09 08:06 < zocky> like spanyards can't tell z and s apart
2008-04-09 08:06 < White_Cat> zocky oh they can tell them apart
2008-04-09 08:06 < White_Cat> they just cant read them apart :)
2008-04-09 08:06 < zocky> /z/ and /s/ , obviously
2008-04-09 08:06 < AdamBishop> like "bavshv" means child
2008-04-09 08:06 < AdamBishop> what kind of cluster is "vshv"! That's just crazy!
